This Privacy Policy (this “Policy”) sets out how Carpe Diem Co., Ltd. (“us”, “we”, or “our”) handles information (“User Information”) collected from you as users (“Users”) when you use or browse our curation media services, ”WASABI” (“Services”), intended for introducing the Japanese culture to the audience abroad.

  • 1.1 We use commercially reasonable efforts to properly protect and handle User Information including personal information by complying with this Policy, the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (the “Act”) and other relevant laws and regulations.
  • 1.2 This Policy, together with any separate or additional terms or rules prescribed by us on our Website in connection with our handling of User Information, is applicable to any use of the Services (including any incidental services provided by us in connection with the Services). If any provision of such separate or additional terms or rules is in conflict with any provision of this Policy, the provision of this Policy shall prevail.
  • 1.3 This Policy is not applicable to any affiliate services (“Affiliate Services”) provided for in Article 4, Paragraph 2 of this Policy or any external services provided by third parties (collectively, “External Services”).         We may collect information pertaining to your devices (including device-specific IDs) for the purpose of maintaining and improving the Services and preventing unlawful acts.

        We may obtain your IP address, date of request and other information pertaining to your operation history which are generated and stored automatically when you use the Services, for the purpose of maintaining and improving the Services and preventing unlawful acts.

        We may use cookies and similar technologies in connection with the Services. A cookie is an industry-standard technology that allows web servers to recognize your device information, but does not allow identification of individuals. Article 5 (Outsourcing)

We may outsource the handling or management of Personal Information obtained from you, in whole or in part, to third party service providers, upon which event we will execute a confidentiality agreement with each third party provider on the terms that conform to the provisions of this Policy, and conduct necessary and appropriate supervision over such third party to ensure proper and safe management of Personal Information.

We may share Personal Information with our partners and other third parties only to the extent necessary for providing Affiliate Services, upon which event we will publicly announce the names of such partners, purpose of use and the type of information to be shared in advance.

Article 7 (Information Gathering Modules)

The Services are equipped with certain information gathering modules, namely as listed below, to analyze User Information and measure the marketing effectiveness of the Services as well as their related services and products. Accordingly, we may provide User Information to the providers of such module services. These information gathering modules use Cookies and other technologies to collect User Information while excluding information that is personally identifiable. The information collected are managed in accordance with the privacy policies and other terms and conditions prescribed by the respective module service providers.

Article 8 (Targeted Advertisements)

  • 8.1 In order for us or other third party advertising providers to conduct targeted advertising (“Targeted Advertising,” which is a technique used to distribute advertisements based on various traits of each User), in the course of the provision of the Services or Affiliate Services we collect, store and use the device information and activity logs (which include Users’ use history relating to the Services that can be collected to analyze the specific needs and preferences of Users, although such information are not personally identifiable.) by using the information gathering modules mentioned in the preceding Article.
  • 8.2 We may provide the information collected pursuant to the preceding paragraph to certain third-party advertising providers (“Advertising Providers”) in a format that is not personally identifiable for the purpose of providing advertisements tailored to each User’s interests and preferences.
  • 8.3 The information provided by us to Advertising Providers will be handled pursuant to the privacy policy or other terms and conditions prescribed by the respective Advertising Providers.

Article 9 (Security)

We appoint our Representative Director as the person in charge to properly manage User Information and continuously improve the quality of such management.

Article 10 (Retrieval or Modification of User Information)

  • 10.1 You may submit a request to access the Personal Information you have previously provided us by following the procedure below:
    1. Submit a request using the designated form on our Website, or by mailing a completed form together with a copy of an identity verification document (or a confirmation of your agent’s authority if requesting through an agent). 1000 yen will be charged for each request submitted by mail.
    2. Upon verifying your identity pursuant to the preceding item, we will provide you with the requested information to the extent deemed reasonable. However, we may not be able to accommodate your request if we are not required to do so under the Act or other relevant laws or regulations, or if the same request is repeatedly submitted without justifiable grounds.
  • 10.2 If you discover any inaccuracy in the Personal Information you have previously provided us, you may submit a request to modify, add to or delete relevant Personal Information by following the procedure below:
    1. Submit a request using the designated form on our Website, or by mailing a completed form together with a copy of an identity verification document (or a confirmation of your agent’s authority if requesting through an agent).
    2. Upon verifying your identity pursuant to the preceding item, we will make the requested modification, addition or deletion of your Personal Information to the extent deemed reasonable. However, we may not be able to accommodate your request if we are not required to do so under the Act or other relevant laws or regulations, if the same request is repeatedly submitted without justifiable grounds, or if such modification, addition or deletion requires excessively technical work.

Article 11 (Revisions)

  • 11.1 We use commercially reasonable efforts to continuously review and improve our management of the handling of User Information, and may revise this Policy from time to time as necessary.
  • 11.2 A revised Policy will be effective immediately after its release on the Services or our Website, or upon notification through other means. However, we will obtain your consent in a manner separately established by us if we are required to do so under applicable laws or regulations in relation to making certain revisions.
