Have you ever heard of Ehou Maki? It is basically an ordinary sushi roll. Ordinary? In fact, it seems ordinary but it’s a lucky sushi roll that most of Japanese eats on February 3rd on Setsubun day. Ehou (恵方)means a lucky direction. Maki(巻) means (sushi) rolls. Now you are getting the idea of it?

You eat those lucky sushi rolls facing at a lucky direction. The odd thing is while you eat and finish it up, you must not speak. In a silence you shall just eat and finish up eating the rolls. While eating you may wish as your own way such as good health, good luck, prosperity, wealth etc.

The origin is from Osaka region back in Edo period, yet it’s getting popular in Tokyo area as well nowadays. The lucky direction differs from each year. The lucky direction in 2016 is south east. Now you need a compass to look it up!
